Pinehurst Harness Track

This time of the year, horses, trainers and drivers make their way back to the Pinehurst Harness Track for winter training. Build in 1915, the harness track is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Any morning except Sundays until spring, you can see them go thru their workouts on the half-mile, clay track. Makes for good photos.

To capture the motion of the horse, I used 1/1,250 sec, f/6.0, ISO 800.

I love how the horses mane are backlit, or rim lighting, on some of these shots. As the horses where going around the track, I was thinking how the light would come from the back, side and front.
